Polyesters are inherently slow to ignite and with the addition of flame retardant additives show excellent resistance to flame and fire. Upon ignition the material self extinguishes in a short amount of time. UL94 flammability ratings of VO are obtained even in very thin walls of 0.031" making this material suitable for injection molding applications like electrical connectors.
Wellman offers a 30% glass fiber reinforced PET that is flame retardant and features good dimensional stability and excellent chemical resistance. Molded parts are unaffected by moisture absorption and retain initial material properties.
