Supporting a price increase announced yesterday by BASF for its line of nylon 6 products, DSM Engineering Plastics, Heerlan, The Netherlands, supported the increase with one of its own today. DSM said that effective September 1, it will increase prices of its line of nylon 6 base polymers and high-viscosity polymers in North America by $0.10/lb.
DSM said the price increase is in response to the rising cost of raw materials.
PRESS RELEASE — AUGUST 2009
We have learned of the production problem that BASF has experienced, limiting their ability to ship certain products, including PA66. (details found below). While this problem occurred in their UK plant, we realized that it could affect their ability to serve customers in North America. If you have been affected by this, we would be happy to see if we can help, as we have plenty of capacity. This is just another way we are looking to support our customers with cost effective, consistent high quality resins that in our case are also environmentally beneficial.

Re: Declaration of Force Majeure with respect to the supply of Hexamethylenediamine (“HMD”), AH Salt (“Salt”) and PA66 polymer (“PA66”)
Dear valued customer, We regret to inform you that a recent event affecting our manufacturing facility at Seal Sands, UK has constrained our production capability for HMD and disrupted our production and supply chain of HMD, Salt and PA66 following events outside our reasonable control.
We are experiencing a leakage in our HMD dehydrogenation column which caused us to stop the HMD production. As a result of this event and the consecutive constraints and disruption of our pro- duction and supply chain we are declaring force majeure for HMD, Salt and PA66 supplied globally effective immediately and are implementing a sales allocation to account for the loss of ability to maintain full delivery rates of HMD, Salt and PA66.
At this point, we cannot predict the duration of the force majeure event or the effect, but it is our hope that normal product delivery rates will be restored as soon as possible and that the curtail- ments will be minimal. However, this force majeure event will result in a reduction in the quantities of HMD, Salt and or PA66 that BASF will be able to ship to you during this period. We will contact you soon to discuss the allocation details and our efforts to minimize the consequences of this event to your company.
We will also strive to keep you informed with respect to the developments, how much allocation will be required, and updates with respect to this force majeure event.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we manage through the production disruption caused by the above described leakage in our HMD plant. We hope to restore normal production as soon as possible.
Our sales representative will contact you soon to discuss further details.
Sincerely,
Wolfgang Micklitz

Dana Holding Corporation announced their use of Wellman Engineering Resin's EcoLon®, post-consumer recycled (PCR), nylon in their cylinder-head cover application used by the Ford Motor Company in their Ford Fusion and Ford Escape automotive programs. This can also be seen on Dana's website at http://dana.mediaroom.com/index.php/press releases/2201 .
As the first automotive product of its kind to me manufactured from post-consumer recycled nylon, EcoLon® allows Dana to not only benefit the environment but also generate significant cost savings while meeting all of the specifications of virgin based nylon or metallic alternatives. We appreciate the opportunity to work with customers like Dana, in ways that further our mutual business interests, and would look forward to the privilege of working on an EcoLon® Success Story with you.

We wanted to share with you the result of a recent test we conducted on material supplied by one of our custom molder customers. Below is the spec that he thought he was buying. Next to it is the results from our certified lab. As you will see, the difference is dramatic, something that our customer suspected, due to molding problems he was having. But since he did not have his own lab facilities, he asked for our help. We were delighted to do so, and not surprisingly, we gained another customer in the process.
These shoddy practices by several companies in our industry are simply wrong, and have tended to give post consumer resins a bad name. While "Brand X" companies eventually go out of business, there is a lot of pain in the process. That is why we are building the EcoLon®brand, so companies know that they can trust materials that come from our proprietary manufacturing processes, (schematic attached) which were specifically set up to provide the kind of consistent quality that our customers demand, particularly our automotive customers. The recent Dana press release is just the latest example of the benefit we and our customers realize by moving in this direction. (go to www.dana.com) Don't believe us??? Then take us up on our standing offer to visit our 600 acre campus in Johnsonville South Carolina. See the 2million square feet under roof. See our state of the art lab. Meet our manufacturing and customer service folks in person. And given that it is getting a bit colder, enjoy some warm, Southern hospitality... If you would like, send some of the "Brand X" material that you have concerns about. We are happy to do the testing and eager to create another EcoLon® Customer Success Story.
We would be more than happy to hear from you and discuss how our EcoLon® products can be incorporated into your current or future product lines. Please give us a call today at 1-800-821-6022.
